Freelance mobile development

A freelance mobile app developer who owns the build end to end.

I'm Andrii Cherniakhov, an independent mobile app developer working solo, taking full ownership of a product from first scope to store release and then staying on to maintain it. This page is for anyone comparing a freelancer against an agency, or trying to figure out how to evaluate one before hiring.

01Why a senior freelancer instead of an agency

The honest case for a freelance mobile app developer over an agency comes down to two things: no layer between you and the person writing the code, and no markup for account managers and junior staff you never asked for. When you hire me, you get 8+ years of production app delivery directly — the person who scopes the project is the person who builds it and the person who answers when something breaks after launch.

The honest case against it: I am one person. For larger scopes I bring in trusted specialists rather than pretending I can do everything alone, but I stay the single point of ownership rather than handing you off to a project manager. If a build genuinely needs a ten-person team from day one, that is a different kind of engagement than the ones I take.

02How to evaluate a freelance mobile developer

A few things worth checking before hiring anyone for a mobile build, freelancer or agency:

  • Shipped, live apps you can actually download — not just a portfolio of screenshots. Koru, Drinkist, Scruto, and iCoach are all real products with real users, listed below.
  • A verifiable track record — Top Rated Plus on Upwork with a 100% job-success record is a platform-measured signal, not a self-reported one.
  • Direct answers about architecture tradeoffs, not just enthusiasm for a tech stack. Ask what they would NOT recommend for your project — the answer tells you more than the pitch does.
  • A clear picture of who does the work after the contract signs. With me, that answer is always the same person you talked to during scoping.

03What "end-to-end ownership" actually means here

It means the same person scopes the architecture, writes the code, sets up the release pipeline, submits to the App Store and Google Play, and stays on for the maintenance that follows — fixing bugs, keeping up with OS updates, and shipping the next round of features. Nothing gets lost in a hand-off between a build team and a separate support team, because there is no hand-off.

04What I actually build

Native Android with Jetpack Compose, iOS with SwiftUI, Kotlin Multiplatform where sharing logic across platforms genuinely pays off, and Compose Multiplatform where a shared UI is the right call for desktop and mobile together. Backend work — Ktor services, Supabase and Postgres, Firebase — when the app needs a server side, not just a client. See the toolkit on the homepage for the full list.

05The kind of client this fits

Founders scoping a first mobile app who want one accountable person rather than a large team overhead. Teams that need senior implementation support without adding management layers. Anyone with an existing app that needs a developer who can read someone else's code and pick up where it left off, without a lengthy ramp-up.

Process

A direct path from first scope to production maintenance.

The workflow stays boring on purpose: define the target, make the technical decisions early, ship in visible increments, and keep the release path clean.

  1. 01

    Scope

Turn a rough idea into a costed plan — features, milestones, and a realistic timeline.

  2. 02

    Architect

Design a structure that stays maintainable as the product and the team grow.

  3. 03

    Build

Ship production code — native Android, Kotlin Multiplatform, and Compose Multiplatform.

  4. 04

    Ship

Release to the App Store and Google Play with analytics and crash reporting in place.

  5. 05

    Maintain

Stay on after launch for fixes, OS updates, and the next round of features.

FAQ

The practical questions for this kind of work.

Are you available for new projects right now?
Availability is shown on the homepage and updated as it changes. Email is the fastest way to check current capacity for a specific timeline.
How is a freelance engagement structured — hourly or fixed price?
Most work runs hourly or as a fixed price per milestone, with retainers for ongoing maintenance after launch. The right structure depends on how well-defined the scope is; I will recommend one after hearing what you are building.
What happens if the scope grows mid-project?
Scope almost always shifts once real users see a product — that is normal. I flag changes as they come up, give a clear estimate of the impact, and keep decisions in your hands rather than quietly absorbing or padding for it.
Do you sign NDAs and assign IP to the client?
Yes. I work with your NDA and IP-assignment terms and issue compliant Polish VAT invoices that are straightforward for EU companies to expense.
What timezone do you work in, and how do we communicate?
I am based in the EU (Poland) and keep solid daily overlap with European and US-East teams, with clear async updates covering the rest. Most engagements run over email with a short check-in cadence — video calls when they are genuinely useful, not by default.
